Better goodbyes workshops

Ever been to a funeral and wished it had been a better goodbye? I sure have. I’ve heard so many sorry tales from people who have had similar experiences of disappointment and regret.

Back in 2010, after just such a sad affair, I started on a path to understand funeral rites better and in 2012 launched the first online platform for end of life planning, Final Fling. Over a decade I did all sorts of training - in Rites of Passage, Care of the Body, Funeral Arranging, as a Funeral Director. I did a Masters in Design Innovation, achieving a distinction and winning two awards, focussing on 21st Century Funerals and how we might reimagine them. And over that time I ran Death Cafes, led workshops, spoke at conferences and in the media to try and get some air into the subject. I set up a charity to help with funeral poverty and to set up a network of celebrants to help families get better funerals.

Things have definitely improved. There’s much more chat on the Twittesphere about death, dying, death rites. There’s an active ‘death positive movement’ out there, talking and taking action from different perspectives.

And now there’s something YOU can do about it.

New for 2022, our charity, A Quiet Revolution, is creating a bespoke 3 day course that aims to share knowledge, build skills and grow confidence that will offers skills for life, to lead a ceremony or to become a celebrant.

The course will be helpful to anyone who is ever likely to have to organise a funeral. And let’s face, not many of us are likely to escape that most onerous task. And when it’s your turn, it’s because the person who has died is close to you. So it matters. No pressure!

The course will help take off the pressure, share the load, demystify the subject, dispel any myths, blast any taboos, and make it easy to talk, question and exercise choice and control. Ask daft questions, practice skills in a safe place. Decide whether you want to keep your knowledge and skills up your sleeve for when you need it or start down the path of celebrancy, leading funerals for family, friends and others in need. We guarantee it’ll change your life.

Check out our Events page to find out more and book on Eventbrite. We’d love to see you there.
