Winter wedding guide

Macbeth country - the perfect Scottish setting

Planning a Winter wedding or funeral in Scotland requires a wee bit of forethought and a big dollop of realism.

This wedding pictured here is a good example.

  • The mist hung atmospherically = drips had to be fended off the all important Marriage Schedule and the web-streaming tech kit

  • The river tumbled boisterously = it was almost impossible to hear me above the roar of water after heavy rain

  • The procession through the forest was magical = shoes were ruined, boots made mucky.

It’s all doable of course. Just think ahead and image some worst-case scenarios to plan.

  • Think layers: get yer thermals on or a good winter coat and hat. You can always strip back later when you get indoors.

  • Good foothold: opt for sturdy footwear. Big boots look great with the most angelic dress. Again, keep the heels for later, when you’re safely indoors.

  • Rainmates at the ready: even on a dry day, a forest can be drippy so have a hat, brolly or good old fashioned rainmate to hand.

  • Hipflask: be ready to toast the couple in the spot and bring your own inner heater. (Drink responsibly.)
